POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Involvement and Social Media Coordinator (CIC) will be responsible for engaging the local community to connect with the mission of Covenant House (CHC) at all levels. The CIC will represent the agency in the public, to create awareness of the mission and goodwill with the community at-large. The focus will be on engaging individuals, corporations, social groups, churches, etc. to support the mission through donations, volunteer activities, positive youth engagement and promotion of our work in the community.
The CIC will work closely with both Program and Development staff to create volunteer opportunities that not only benefit the youth but also serve as meaningful engagement points for donors and potential supporters. These opportunities will be thoughtfully designed to cultivate relationships, identify high-potential donors, and serve as a qualification pipeline for the Development team. Additionally, the CIC will work to uncover new fundraising opportunities, deepen connections to Covenant House’s mission, and maximize awareness of the organization’s impact through targeted outreach and engagement efforts.
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time Hourly, Non-exempt
PAY RATE: $33.65
Community Involvement and Volunteer Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day Volunteer Program activities for Covenant House California, which includes recruiting new volunteers, training, planning, and organizing volunteer events to ensure appropriate volunteer recognition.
- Provides orientation sessions to new volunteers specific to CHC’s mission/philosophy of care, their volunteer job duties, and program policies/procedures, and identifies individual training they may need to increase their knowledge and understanding of the youth served.
- Gifts In-Kind – Seeing through the whole process including: solicitation, processing, storage, and distribution of items.
- Create and distribute a monthly ‘Activity Calendar’ that highlights special events, volunteer workshops, community service opportunities, and other celebrations as appropriate.
- Develop a volunteer recognition program.
- Liaison to the Covenant House Young Professional Board.
- Coordinates activities and volunteers for year-round events including annual community Thanksgiving Day dinner, Summer Barbecue, and other Holiday activities.
- Work with the Development Team to design and execute strategic engagement events and volunteer activities aimed at identifying potential donors and corporate sponsors. These efforts will focus on cultivating new relationships and deepening existing ones, with qualified prospects seamlessly transitioned to the Development Team for further stewardship and solicitation.
- Support the Spring Sleep Out by coordinating with the Young Professionals Board, assisting with recruitment by identifying and inviting volunteers, and managing day-of logistics to ensure a seamless event.
- Interview, screen, and make individual volunteer assignments, ensuring that their skills and experience match position requirements. Recruit and manage volunteer teams from churches, workplaces, schools, and social organizations involved in offsite fundraising and special event support.
- Maintan the volunteer filing system, including applications, training information, etc.; maintain a database of organizations, corporations, and other individuals to assure accurate coordination and information for all CHC program needs using Raiser’s Edge.
- Communicate with volunteers regularly through email, e-newsletters, and other available tools to ensure they remain engaged with CHC.
- Represent CHC in various community forums with the purpose of creating increased awareness, communication, and collaboration with other local community groups.

Social Media Responsibilities
- Partner with the CDO to support the development and implementation of a Social Media strategy for Covenant House California, which will increase awareness of, and engagement with, the community, in support of CHC’s mission.
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across CHC’s social media platforms, highlighting success stories, events, volunteer opportunities, and program milestones.
- Support in monitoring and analyzing the performance of social media campaigns using analytics tools to inform and improve engagement strategies.
- Have regular communications and outreach to other site CIC’s and Directors to gather content and information to share on social media.
- Respond to inquiries and engage with followers on social media to foster a sense of community and connection to CHC.
- Collaborate with the Development Team to create social media content that supports fundraising initiatives, donor recognition, and event promotion.
- Train staff and volunteers on best practices for sharing CHC’s mission and updates via their personal networks.
- Stay up-to-date on social media trends, tools, and best practices to maximize outreach and community impact.
- Report to the Chief Development Officer for all social media-related strategies, performance metrics, and campaign development.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or equivalent experience required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one to two years of related experience. Professional work experience as a volunteer coordinator or related experience is strongly preferred. Management, supervisory, coaching, and/or training experience is also preferred. Development and Human Resources experience are both a plus.
SKILLS: Must have good organizational, verbal/written communication skills. Strong computer abilities/software abilities (proficient with Microsoft Office) Raiser’s Edge experience preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including public speaking; must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors and the public. Must have a professional presentation and be detail oriented, well organized, have good problem solving skills and the ability to work effectively on multiple assignments at the same time.
TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.
- CONDITIONS: 40 hours per week. Some after hours and weekend work is required as a condition of employment. Must be willing to work flexible hours, days, evenings or occasional weekends. General office with some required travel. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
