The National Director of Benefits and Compensation supports and leads portions of the development, implementation, integration, analysis, and execution of the overall organization’s total rewards programs, including total compensation, health and welfare benefits programs, retirement plans, other total rewards programs, and human resources systems that support total rewards. The position works with the Vice President of Total Rewards to continually enhance and improve Covenant Living’s total rewards offerings for employees and their families, while ensuring programs remain innovative, competitive, financially sustainable, and aligned with strategic business objectives. The position will ensure accurate benefits and compensation delivery, evaluate both benefits and compensations programs that lead to strong plan performance, and ensure programs and offerings meet regulatory compliance and contain costs. Importantly, the position will ideate with the Vice President of Total Rewards and recommend benefit programs and compensation solutions that support the recruitment and retention of the best talent in the industry.This is a hybrid position where your time is split between remote work and Covenant Living's central office in Skokie, IL.
Responsibilities:
The National Director of Benefits and Compensation manages comprehensive benefits and wellness initiatives to enhance employee experience, productivity and to attract best talent
- Evaluate and analyze result of programs and services regularly and systematically and reports results to Vice President of Total Rewards
- Oversee administration of employee programs including health, prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary benefits and 403(b) plans
- Facilitate accurate and timely delivery of
- Employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, and other service providers
- Monthly insurance billing and coordinates with Accounts Payable to ensure bills are paid accurately and timely
- Oversee administration of federal/state specific paid sick leave and leaves of absence policies
- Assist Vice President of Total Rewards with
- Annual benefits enrollment including communications, system updates, and testing
- Bi-annual Workday system updates to ensure updates support benefit programs
- Lead participation in benefits and compensation surveys with industry organizations and associations, review results to understand competition and best industry practices and trends and report results
- Lead benefits orientation for central office employees (excluding executive orientation) and conduct presentations as necessary
- Communicate and provide advice to community leaders and employees related to benefits and compensation plans including eligibility, coverage, and provisions
- Monitor and manage benefit arrears and coordinate with communities to ensure collections of arrears
- Complete reporting and documentation required by federal, state, partner, and provider rules, regulations, and policies
- Montor insurance carriers’ discrepancy reports to ensure that data is accurate
Analyze, implement and manage compensation programs that support recruitment and retention of the best talent
- Collaborate with community leaders, specifically operations and human resources, to plan and implement base wage changes
- Complete compensation benchmark analysis for current/new positions by researching market data with compensation partners to ensure competitive market salaries
- Lead knowledge sharing of compensation practices, information with industry organizations and associations, to understand competition and best industry practices and trends
- Lead compensation benchmark/market analysis for current and new positions by researching market data with our compensation partners to ensure competitive compensation offers to potential candidates and competitive market salaries for internal staff
- Lead annual salary schedule and range updates to payroll partner site
- Lead preparation of employee total compensation statements, as directed by Vice President of Total Rewards
- Co-lead annual merit increase process, program in partnership with Vice President of Total Rewards, National Director, Talent Development, National Director, HR Technology and Shared Services, and ECM Finance
- Support Vice President of Total Rewards with annual budget analyses, annual integrated strategic plan analyses related to compensation, and annual incentive plan administration
- Complete reporting requirements as required by federal, state and provider rules and practices
- Serve community human resources staff by answering questions and partnering on compensation situations and issues
Lead the development, analysis, implementation and management of other employee programs that support, engage, and motivate employees
- Covenant Rewards coordination and communication with program leader
- Employee emotional support needs overall and/or at specific communities
- Research potential new programs and report summary of program benefits and objectives
- Manage paid time off programs and monitor to ensure competitiveness within industry
Support acquisitions/affiliations and other key human resources departments with key initiatives as needed
- Assist in communication with and presentation of organization benefits to onboard and welcome new employees through acquisitions/affiliations
- Support HR Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Development initiatives as needed
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Five to eight years’ compensation and benefits leadership experience
- Experience in identifying and developing benefit programs in partnership with vendors and brokers
- Experience in identifying compensation programs and recommending them to HR and/or business leaders
- Experience in compensation analyses
- Strong overall knowledge of benefits and compensation
- Experience in collaborating with other HR and/or business leaders in implementing programs across an organization
Preferred:
- Benefits and/or compensation technical certification(s) a plus (e.g., CEBS, CCP)
Compensation Pay Range:
Reasonable Pay Estimate
A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $147,500.00 - $165,000.00. There are numerous factors taken into consideration in determining the actual offered rate of pay, including but not limited to: job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and consideration of internal and external equity.For full time employees, we offer a generous benefits package that includes:
