What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extended Coverage Operations Specialist position at Covenant Logistics?
The Extended Coverage Operations Specialist assists with streamlining daily operations within Fleet Management, Planning, and/or Customer Service. They are multi-skilled and cross trained to enhance efficiency across Operations in designated business units. The Extended Coverage Operations Specialist should be comfortable communicating with people throughout the organization, able to solve problems, assist in spot pricing or capacity needs, adept at estimating and managing time for a variety of tasks, and has a strong sense of big-picture objectives.
Responsibilities
- Liaise with other departments such as customer service and operations to ensure seamless workflow across designated business units.
- Monitor the status of assigned fleets, accounts, and/or markets.
- Must be a forward thinker in optimizing routes and schedules to minimize operational costs.
- Provide support and guidance regarding routes, delivery schedules, and any issues encountered on the road.
- Communicate with customers to provide updates on delivery statuses and handle any inquiries or concerns, ensuring service levels are met.
- Locate/secure travel assistance for professional drivers as needed.
- Analyze and take action on overbooked/under-booked markets.
- Maintain data integrity in all programs while managing daily responsibilities.
- Assist in upkeeping day to day books of business, training materials, and policies.
- Contribute to our safety culture by keeping a safety-first attitude.
- Respond to and manage incidents such as accidents, breakdowns, or delays, with tailored approaches for each business segments’ operations.
- Multiskilled in an Operations based department at 100% position requirements and multiskilled in a minimum of two Operations departments at 70% position requirements.
- Serve as the main point of contact for extended coverage team members, able to address and accommodate the different needs of each assigned business segment.
- Understand the unique demands and requirements of each assigned business segment.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills a must; verbal and written.
- Efficient understanding of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced and demanding environment.
- Highly organized, comfortable with prioritizing, and making decisions with good discernment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibilities, roles and accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to a complex and ever-changing work environment. experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
- Minimum of 2 years transportation industry experience required.
- Experience in fleet management, load planning or account management preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, supply chain or similar field required. 1 year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of education required.

Covenant’s compensation philosophy’s intent is to use a competitive total compensation strategy to determine the current market value of a position while also considering individual factors such as performance in current position, time in seat of current position, experience, level of responsibility/accountability, and longevity with the company. The system will be objective and non-discriminatory.
Pay Range: $49,649.60 -$56,492.80
Pay Grade: 6
