Custodian

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a proactive approach to custodial duties, with a focus on both residential and commercial cleaning standards.

Responsibilities

1. Cleaning of the building:

• a. Clean all areas of the church used on a routine basis.
• b. Perform regular housekeeping duties in all offices and classrooms: vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, washing floors, and washing windows and glass in heavily trafficked areas.
• c. Dust, clean, and vacuum church library lounge at least weekly.
• d. Clean, sanitize, and maintain all bathrooms. Stock with paper products, soap, and supplies.
• e. Keep front entrance clean and free of debris.
• f. Spot-clean fingerprints on walls in heavy traffic areas.
• g. Clean and polish drinking fountains.
• h. Clean Covenant Children’s Academy routinely when in session and as needed.
• i. Clean and fill hand sanitizing stations; disinfect prominent and commonly touched surfaces such as door handles, railings, elevator buttons.

2. Ensure that sanctuary and chapel appointments are clean including: candles, flower urns, bowls, banners, pews.

3. Attend staff meetings as scheduled.

4. Work with the Facilities Manager and Pastor to plan and complete major cleaning projects including, but not limited to:

• a. Deep clean the sanctuary and chapel annually to include cleaning and conditioning of pews.
• b. Wood surfaces: clean and condition as needed.
• c. Floors: Develop a schedule to maintain hard floors and carpet. Hard flooring: scrub and buff as indicated and strip and wax when needed. Hardwood: dust and mop.
• d. Keep glass clean on doors.
• e. Clean all windows inside and out where able.
• f. Check and clean areas of the church not frequently used.

5. Monitoring cameras and doors on Sunday mornings during service and during special events.

6. Perform any other custodial or housekeeping duties as requested working with the Pastor, Facilities Manager, or other staff.

Experience

• Previous experience in custodial work or facilities maintenance is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with industrial cleaning methods and equipment is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Extensive walking and bending required.
• Lifting and moving heavy objects.
• Climbing multiple flights of stairs.
• Able to schedule and accomplish required weekly cleaning activities.
• Able to work flexible hours.
• Flexible and willing to implement changes when needed to improve work processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Able to work within the beliefs and practices of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
