What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Reference Assistant position at Coventry Public Library?
Coventry Public Library is seeking a part-time Reference Assistant who is eager to work with the public and provide excellent customer service. Primary tasks include providing reference to patrons in-person and via telephone, chat, and email; assisting and instructing patrons on the computer; keeping up with current library trends and services; and performing additional library related duties as required.
: Bachelor’s degree required. A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school, or equivalent experience, is preferred. Public library experience is highly desirable. Qualified individuals will be experienced in customer service and working with the public; have a knowledge of principles and practices of professional library work; knowledge of current trends in reference services and library services for patrons of all ages; ability to interact effectively with library staff; ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing. Schedule flexibility preferred, willing to work both evenings and day shifts as well as select Sundays. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to work on a team as well as independently. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Part-time position. Schedule is Tuesday 2-8pm; Wednesday 9:30am-5pm; alternating both Fridays 1-5pm; and Saturdays 8:30am-4pm (8:45am-1pm from June-August); and select Sundays 11:45am-4pm at time and a half. Other hours may be added to cover vacations or special programs. Salary range is $19-$23 per hour.
