What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Soft Goods Designer position at Covercraft Industries LLC?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Create and sketch seat cover patterns using SolidWorks and other design software.
- Edit patterns and generate cut files using Gerber/Pattern Smith software.
- Create assembly prints as needed using Photoshop or AutoCAD.
- Maintain and update pattern progress in a tracking spreadsheet to provide senior leadership with process transparency and troubleshoot delays.
- Travel to dealerships to perform patterning and evaluate form/fit/function.
- Conduct fit testing using dealer-authorized vehicles or rentals to assess pattern performance and sample validation.
- Collaborate with production leadership and customer service to address questions and implement necessary pattern adjustments.
- Support revisions and improvements to existing patterns as needed.
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance design processes and product quality.
- Ensure all patterns meet company quality standards and manufacturability requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging materials, and advancements in design technology.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and quality control, to ensure seamless product development and execution.
- Anything else deemed necessary by your manager.
AUTHORITY:
All personnel are responsible for quality and therefore have the authority to stop production, if necessary to correct quality problems.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Must be able to read, write and speak English. Bilingual/Spanish a plus.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects with fast response to changing priorities.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Gerber/Pattern Smith, AutoCAD, and Photoshop.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to think innovatively and drive continuous improvements.
- Experience in automotive accessories design or related manufacturing industries preferred.
- Ability to travel locally as required to dealerships or testing sites.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
2 to 4 years’ experience in a CAD environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perceive colors and shade of colors.
Must be able to reach, bend and stretch.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
Must be able to be trained to operate some basic power tools.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
4-year technical degree or Bachelor's in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
