Job Summary:
- The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall plant operations, including all production, material management (receiving, shipping, warehouse) and ensuring all employees strive to meet the standards set forth by the company for Safety, Quality, Efficiency, Preventative Maintenance, and Housekeeping.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct all plant manufacturing and material management processes at one or multiple locations while maintaining a safe work environment
- Work collaboratively with the Directors and staff in Quality, Design, Engineering, Purchasing and other areas outside of the plant operations.
- Plan and direct the layout of equipment, workflow and workforce utilization as well as participating in the procurement of raw materials, supplies, full material warehouse management and other production need.
- Plan, forecast and execute work schedules and production plans that achieve annual operating plan and budget. Promptly address issues/problems to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPls), such Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost I Productivity goals
- Develop and execute strategies to achieve company goals related to growth, profit improvement, customer satisfaction, employee relations and lean manufacturing
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, OSHA and company policies
- Manage budget, control costs and identify waste reduction efforts to achieve goals cost effectively
- Identify better processes and product time studies as needed and work with engineering to ensure these corrections are made.
- Identify, justify and implement capital investments and improvement projects as needed
- Develop and maintain a positive team-based performance culture that cultivates trust, respect and embraces continuous improvement
- Develop teams and employees to improve performance; address infractions in a professional and timely manner; document and work with Human Resources to implement any disciplinary or PIP programs with employees.
- Maintain a secure facility to minimize risk and ensure that both employees and production assets are kept safe.
- Work with and follow production scheduler(s) schedules to ensure all production is processing as needed per the schedule
- Work with Human Resources to follow their guidance on appropriate employee laws, evaluations, step progressions, work comp, and disciplinary actions
- Finished goods inventory, shipping and traffic in the systematic storing of finished goods, picking, handling process of shipping product to customers per packing slips in a timely manner, coordinating shipping traffic of those products to the customer in an efficient and timely manner.
- Maintain a “zero defects” quality culture where operators understand their responsibility to produce a quality product; ensure operators stop and fix defects when identified; implement root cause solutions to prevent recurring defects
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent as needed.
AUTHORITY:
- All personnel are responsible for quality and safety. Each employee has both the authority and responsibility to stop production, if necessary, to correct safety or quality problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree and five or more years as a plant manager or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Strong analytical skills, supply chain management, logistical planning skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- In-depth knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
- Prior experience with continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma &/or Toyota production system, or similar experience at leading teams to achieve measurable improvements
- Prior successful experience of material management, knowledge and experience in material supply chain management and racking organization.
- Ability to review and discuss results of production reports, budgets and financial statements
- Strong working knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA requirements
- Ability to coach, train and instruct employees
- SAP knowledge and background
- Computer skills with the ability learn/ use company computer systems and effectively communicate using Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
