The Senior Internal Auditor is a key member of the internal audit team. Internal Audit contributes to the long-term goals of the company through effective audit services that help the organization proactively manage risks. This position will assist the Director of Internal Audit lead audit engagements and be in-charge of audit execution, focusing on all aspects of an audit engagement including risk assessment, fieldwork, and reporting on internal controls using a risk based audit methodology. The role will also take a leader role in the organization’s Model Audit Rule (MAR) testing efforts which include walkthroughs, identification of key risks and controls, and testing.
The role includes significant client interaction in order to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and the efficiency of operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Document the business understanding, business objectives, risks, performance metrics, and key controls and testing strategies for each audit engagement assigned.
- Assist in leading and managing the walkthroughs and testing of various MAR processes in coordination with the Finance department.
- Support the audit team monitoring of project progress and status.
- Review testing and documentation of the internal audit team.
- Document and write identified audit issues to ensure they are clearly understood, documented, and that the process owner/unit management provides corrective actions.
- Draft and finalize internal audit reports of findings and recommendations for delivery to management.
- Lead meetings with clients for the purpose of audit planning, fieldwork and reporting, including presenting audit findings and recommendations; and documenting the results of these meetings.
- Present results of the audit results and issues to senior management at the conclusion of the review.
- Monitor audit findings to ensure effective resolution and perform testing to ensure findings have been properly remediated.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and the efficiency of operations, interacting frequently with internal clients.
- Assist in the annual risk assessment process and development of the annual Internal Audit plan.
- Actively build and manage relationships with business partners.
- Collaborate and work with our Internal Audit Co-sourcing partners.
Education, Requirements & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting preferred.
- Certification as a CIA or CPA.
- 4-6 years of internal audit experience, risk management, or accounting role.
- Experience with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and/or Model Audit Rule (MAR) is preferred.
- Robust knowledge of risks and controls and familiarity with the COSO framework.
- Experience in reviewing and guiding junior level staff.
- Experience in leading internal audit projects from planning to reporting.
- Insurance industry background a plus but not required (actuarial, underwriting, claims, insurance operations and related products).
- Proactive with the ability to work independently with limited guidance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organization skills to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate, influence and network effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
- Experience with the use of data analytics.
