Major Responsibilities
- Monitor new product trials runs to assess compatibility with existing systems, materials and equipment.
- Conduct special troubleshooting projects to investigate product deviations, failures or process changes. Recommend new methods, procedures, approaches for solving-specific problems using Green Belt methodologies.
- Provide technical assistance to the Newark Color Competence Center (CDC), production facilities, global Covestro CDC’s, toll compounders.
- Evaluate and determine acceptability of color matches performed by CDC technicians (Includes formulation and visual color approval). Assist CDC technicians on difficult color matches. Report formula and setup Global color numbers in ELJ, PLM.
- Review/Write reports on special projects (graphing of data, drawing conclusion from data, etc.).
- Review Technical Data Sheets and Safety Data Sheets, and request additional analytical information as needed, to assess whether trial raw materials pose a significant hazard for use in compounding on a lab scale.
- Responsible for reviewing a new color based on visual assessment.
- Formulate color that fits production Globally (knowledge of the technical limit, light stability formula, color formula feasible in production.)
- Support CDC Head regarding local/regional color projects, external work with customer and support technical discussions and communicate final results appropriately.
- Planning and coordination of CDC Colorist Activity & daily operation activity like PM, Maintenance and Coaching Colorist I, II, III - Color related topics (Technical)
- Supporting other operation requirements such as ISO documentation, Safety documents, JHA, JSBO, Near miss etc.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 11 years of color formulating experience and proven scientific, engineering, or manufacturing experience with the technology, manufacturing, process, or methods OR
- Associates degree and at least 6 years of color formulating experience and proven scientific, engineering, or manufacturing experience with the technology, manufacturing, process, or methods
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering and at least 3 years of experience in color theory, computer color matching, and laboratory experience with plastics processing equipment
- Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt
- Understanding of Design process
- Capable presenting to all organization levels.
- High initiative, quickness to learn, ability to work independently and make decisions promptly.
- Ability to trouble shoot production color issues and good judgment in the resolution.
- Ability to analyze, identify, and propose solutions to technical problems in a logical manner.
- Clear and concise oral and written communication with statistical and analytical skills regarding quality.
- A high degree of computer proficiency is preferred, as this position uses many different programs and software to perform daily functions and tasks (ex., Excel, Access, SAP, Journalling Software and various color measuring software.)
- Ability to work on more than one project at a time by supporting the experiments, developing new approaches and interpreting results.
- Successful problem solving requires a thorough knowledge of manufacturing, raw materials, colorants, processes and familiarization with product lines.
