What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Information Director - Full Time position at Covington County Hospital?
Coordinates the activities and the personnel in the Health Information Department. Ensures that an adequate medical record is kept for every patient in Acute Care, Swing Bed, Observation, Emergency Room, Outpatient and Personal Care/Hospice. Ensures that records are readily available for authorized purposes and protected in accordance with hospital rules and regulations.
Requirements: Graduate of an accredited college for Health Information Management required. Must be registered by the Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator. Must have a least one year of experience in Health Information Managment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, evaluate, and discipline department personnel
- Submit payroll and administer hospital policies and procedures
- Ensure that an adequate medical record is kept
- Ensure that medical records are readily available for authorized purposes but protected in accordance with hospital rules and regulations and state and federal laws
- Prepare department budget for salaries, supplies and equipment
- Evaluate and revise job procedures to assure accurate coding, processing, scanning of all medical records
- Represent the hospital in court cases involving subpoena duces tecum hospital records and utilizing knowledge of principles of medical jurisprudence and laws of the state governing the use of clinical court actions
- Code records as needed
- Oversee maintenance of Cancer Registry, Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury, and ensure required information is reported to appropriate state registries
- Establish a plan for Health Information departmental quality assurance and maintaining records for internal department controls
- Other duties as assigned
