Job Summary: Under the direction of the Deputy Police Chief, performs a variety of routine and complex administrative, regulatory and technical work related to municipal code enforcement and compliance. The Code Compliance Officer manages and administers the City’s code compliance program, including facilitation of the abatement of public nuisances approved by the City Council. The position is also responsible for monitoring compliance with other City codes, regulations, and ordinances.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Job FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Respond to citizen complaints pertaining to nuisances such as inoperable cars, trash in yards, excessive noise, etc., investigating and carrying through with abatement procedures.Investigate, initiate, and administer nuisance abatement procedures.Investigate and resolve non-conforming land uses and zoning violations of other City codes and ordinances.Enforce liquor business licenses and work with the County Health Department for Health/Safety violations.Meet with owners, tenants, contractors and developers to review code requirements and potential violations. Undertake ongoing field investigations to reactively and proactively maintain compliance with City ordinances including applicable land use regulations.Prepare and maintain detailed electronic records and statistics related to all enforcement activities.Represent the City in public hearings, administrative hearings or court actions involving code enforcement and compliance activities.Investigate and resolve complex code enforcement issues.Assist the public as needed (i.e. phone and walk-in inquiries).Typical daily routine office procedures include effective filing, development and maintenance of accurate record keeping techniques, and the ability to administer large amounts of information.Perform related tasks as required.
