General Definition of Work
Performs complex administrative and skilled technical work in the lesson planning, instruction and training of EMT-A’s, Paramedics, and EMS staff managing full range of activities necessary for planning, scheduling, managing and maintaining records for training programs and related work as apparent or assigned. Supervision exercised over recruits and EMS staff. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Training Division Chief and EMS Division Chief.

Essential Functions
Develops course of study to prepare students for state certification and licensure as EMT-A’s and Paramedics
Prepare lesson plans, classroom presentations, student assignments and tests to achieve program goals and objectives that adhere to state and departmental standards as well as accrediting agency requirements
Works with EMS Division Chief to identify weaknesses and develop on-going training as appropriate
Develops programs for and instructs remedial classes as needed or as required by state licensing boards
Reviews EPCRs for accuracy and to evaluate understanding of and compliance with protocols
Develops programs for and instructs continuing education for all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff
Maintains accurate records of student progress throughout course including grades, overall understanding of material, and disciplinary files
Provides nurturing student environment
Continuous quality review and improvement of the program
Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area
Orientation/training and supervision of clinical and capstone field internship preceptors
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of related industry, organization and departmental policies, legal guidelines, best practices and procedures and recommendations, ordinances and laws; Comprehensive knowledge of current versions of the National EMS Scope or Practice and National EMS Standards; Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed clinical practices; Comprehensive ability to evaluate tests, determine percentages and passing scores; Comprehensive ability to maintain records and documents according to state and department requirements; General knowledge of Standard Accounting and office equipment (i.e computer, fax, telephone, copier); Comprehensive knowledge of specialized medical equipment including stretchers, life-saving equipment (Lucas, AEds, etc.); Comprehensive knowledge of rescue mannequin simulator; Comprehensive knowledge of various simulators used in the education of EMS and Paramedic students; Thorough knowledge of specialized software relating to patient care, incident reporting and records, time keeping, and scheduling; Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; computer rates, rations and percentages; Comfortable creating lesson plans and with classroom instruction; Ability to precept clinical students in the field; Experience in the delivery of prehospital emergency care.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree preferably in health-related EMS and 10 years of extensive experience as a Paramedic and considerable instructional experience in a classroom setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, standing, walking, sitting; occasionally climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions. Work has standard vision requirements, close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, detailed or loud talking to convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to recognize information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; frequently working near moving mechanical parts, occasionally requires working in wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), working with explosives, exposure to vibration, and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic) or loud noise (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
Special Requirements
Must have:
*Current Georgia Paramedic License
*Current Georgia EMS or Paramedic Instructor License
*Valid Georgia driver’s license and a favorable driving history (MVR)
*Favorable background history as determined by a review of local, state, and federal records
*Other training, education & certification requirements as specified by Coweta Fire Rescue at the time of hire.
