What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Manager position at Cowgirl Creamery & Tomales Bay Foods?
The HR Manager is instrumental in supporting the company's people and culture. They are responsible for the day-to-day HR operations in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, employment law compliance, payroll processing, records management, employment claims. As part of the local leadership team, they work as a collaborative business partner with key stakeholders.
This is a full-time, primarily onsite role based in Petaluma, CA with some WFH flexibility.
What You'll Do
HRIS & Payroll
- Manage HRISs records and employee data files, including all legally required documentation. Coordinate with HRIS provider on all system needs, issues and improvements.
- Manage bi-weekly payroll processing and reporting.
Employment
- Manage in house recruitment efforts for all personnel. Assist hiring managers by coordinating personnel recruitments including application review, scheduling and/or performing interviews to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
- Conduct employee onboarding and helps plan training & development.
- Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
- Schedule and monitor performance evaluation and development planning process.
- Develop and implement personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain the employee handbook.
- Support organizational structure and design including maintaining current market wage bands, job descriptions, and annual compensation changes.
Benefits
- Manage benefits administration, including benefits offerings, new and open enrollment processes, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees.
- Provide support to employees in various topics such as leaves, compensation etc. (ex: FMLA/CFRA, PDL)
- Manage relationships with all external benefits providers and insurance brokers.
- Complete all regular and mandatory reporting and filings, including ACA, 401k Non-Discrimination Testing, etc.
Employee Relations
- Promote programs to create a collaborative and productive workplace.
- Coordinate company-wide employee communications.
- Provide mediation, supervisor training and counseling for employee conflicts.
- Respond to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and assist in the resolution of issues and problems.
- Review and guide management recommendations for employment terminations.
- Coordinate Workers Compensation claims and employee follow up.
Administration
- Develop, document and implement human resource policies to support a healthy and growing workforce
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, advising management on needed actions.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Office Management
- Manage office workspaces including supply ordering.
- Coordinate with IT for new/terminating user accounts & computer equipment needs.
- Establish & maintain systems to keep office in good working order.
What You Bring
- 5 years of related experience in Human Resources, including 3 years of leadership and management experience.
- Working knowledge of typical HRIS functionality (ex: Success Factors, UKG, ADP, etc.)
- A desire to create environments where people and organizations can thrive.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft suite products, particularly Excel and Power Point.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen and effectively verbalize ideas and points of view.
- Ability to effectively navigate social dynamics, manage relationships, and communicate with a wide range of individuals.
- A solid understanding of the key principles of employment law.
- The ability to remain calm in stressful situations including during disciplinary matters or staff conflicts.
- Ability to work independently and execute decisions based on knowledge, ethics and sound judgment in applying accounting rules and policies
