What are the responsibilities and job description for the Work Crew Officer - PT position at Cowlitz County?
This position supervises a crew of criminal justice clients who are performing work in the community. Maintains surveillance of crew members to ensure the security of the crew and community protection.
Now filling Part-Time openings. This position is for weekend coverage, averaging about 16 hours per week.
- Perform jobs assigned by the Offender Services Manager. Sign-in all out-of-custody work crew participants daily . Pick up, drive and supervise work crew members to and from work sites.
- Conduct pat downs of all work crew members every day. Conduct random, van and work area searches.
- Supervise and monitor work crews at all times while under his/her custody and at work sites. Maintain attendance records and all other records assigned, including incident logs and reports.
- Ensure that work crew members do not gain access to contraband material.
- Perform random UA/PBT testing on crew members and report results to supervisor.
- Report and document performance, conduct and cooperative attitude of the work crew members to Offender Services Manager. Contact Offender Services Department if a work crew member refuses to abide by rules or in the event of illness or injury, incident of mis-conduct or escape, or transportation problems.
- Meet and report to the Offender Services Manager of all equipment and other or resources needs, repairs, or maintenance. Provide regular status reports on activities.
- Collaborate or coordinate efforts with other Offender Services staff to improve services and operations, ensure proper services and time lines.
- Perform general clerical duties to maintain records, prepare correspondence, make contacts, prepare regular reports,
- Attend staff meetings. Contribute recommendations for improvement of operations and services.
- Attend required training and conferences.
- Able to effectively demonstrate the operation of trucks, vans and other equipment including the ability to back up a vehicle pulling a trailer and the ability to parallel park a vehicle pulling a trailer
Other Duties:
- Perform special or delegated duties as assigned by the Offender Services Manager.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Be a U.S. citizen and be at least 21 years old.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Successfully pass a full background investigation.
- Successfully complete First Aid and CPR training within the first six months of employment.
- Customer service and interpersonal skills in dealing with public, own department staff and staff from other agencies.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Provide clear and concise instructions.
- Multi-task daily activities and determine work priorities. Good organizational skills to maintain records.
- Exercise professionalism and control during stressful situations.
- Exercise discretion over sensitive and confidential issues related to the department and its business.
- Initiative with problem-solving skills, while following standard practices, polices and procedures of the department.
- Perform all duties of the position in accordance to Policies and Procedures.
- Ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.
