Flat Pattern Operator
2nd Shift: Mon-Thu 4:00pm-2:30am
Location: Harper KS
Set up and operate CNC router and water jet while producing various shaped parts to customer requirements. Operator must be able to follow detailed standard work and procedures utilizing existing programs for various size of raw material sheet size, change out and maintain a sharp set of tooling. Must understand machine maintenance requirements. Must be aware of cosmetic appearance of parts and make sure that they are de burred per customer requirements and make sure that first part and every part is exactly the same, being especially aware of possible loss of vacuum, drills and cutters that are close in size that can cause dissimilar parts.
Tasks:
- Calculate and measure dimensions or tolerances, using instruments such as micrometers, calipers and portable CMM or FARO.
- Machine parts to specifications using a flat pattern machine
- Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
- Measure, examine, or test completed parts to check for defects and ensure conformance to customer using precision instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and faro arms.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine product conformance
- Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
- Deburring machined parts to remove nicks, scratches, rough and sharp edges to customer requirements.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines per set up documentation
- Understands material, certifications and traceability and looks out for discrepancies.
- Brings planning changes to supervisor when running on a different machine would be more efficient.
- Displays a superior knowledge of cosmetic appearance of parts. Catches all flawed parts in the flat pattern area instead of at a later operation.
- Regularly suggests process improvements. Looks for improved methods of tooling and pathing parts.
- Communicates well with supervisors and peers and displays a positive outlook.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced blueprint reading, understands work orders and customer requirements.
- Tool and path production parts. Able to operate, program, adjust and run machines without assistance.
- Maintain machine and tooling. Understands machine maintenance and is pro-active in keeping repairs to a minimum.
- CNC and machine operation. Keeps tool sharp and inventoried accurately.
- Ability to inspect parts. Brings first parts to inspection that meet or exceed company requirements.
