Custodian

The Custodial Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the science museum and aquarium facilities. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks in public areas, exhibits, restrooms, and behind-the-scenes spaces to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning and Maintenance:
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in all areas of the museum and aquarium.
• Dust and wipe down surfaces, including exhibits, display cases, and furniture.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies.
• Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in accordance with environmental regulations.

· Exhibit Care:

• Assist in the maintenance of exhibits, ensuring that they are clean and presentable.
• Report any damages or maintenance needs to the Facilities Manager.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to safety guidelines and training.

· Visitor Interaction:

• Provide friendly and helpful service to visitors, answering any questions about the facilities.
• Assist in ensuring that public areas are tidy and welcoming.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work collaboratively with other staff members and departments to ensure the smooth operation of the museum and aquarium.
• Participate in training sessions and meetings as required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience is a plus.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness.
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
• Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments, including public spaces and behind-the-scenes areas.
• May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
