What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Product Management - Data position at Cox?

This role will guide the strategic direction for Data Analytics and Reporting for Business Operations. The role's primary responsibility is to build and nurture relationships with varied stakeholders in sales, marketing, and finance. They will engage these stakeholders to develop a data capability roadmap that includes best-in-class performance measurements to drive day to day success of the business as well as unlock insights to inform strategic business decisions.

The role will lead a team of product owners to define a multi-quarter roadmap and partner with architecture and engineering peers in delivering the solutions in an agile environment. They will also have a key responsibility in maturing product discipline and community. This includes evangelizing the vision and strategy for data capabilities and growing team members.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of experience from product development, data analytics, and sales/marketing business acumen.

Define Strategy and Roadmap

  • Evangelize the product vision with stakeholders at varying levels in functional areas like sales, marketing, and finance to define and get buy-in on strategy, prioritization, and execution of the roadmap.
  • Lead ideation and product innovation with stakeholders to identify new opportunities and creative solutions to meet business needs.
  • Facilitate and inform the product roadmap development through opportunity identification, business case development, industry research, and requirements.
  • Collaborate/engage across teams for end-to-end data product governance from data conception to KPIs to business impact.
  • Advance data maturity by defining data solutions in support of business objectives - KPIs, analysis, data provisioning.
  • Guide the product roadmap in the adoption & usage of state-of-the-art data management, transformation, and analytics solutions.
  • Establish and manage to success metrics for roadmap outcomes including business case delivery.
  • Share expertise in areas of traditional data analytics and master data management.


Partner for Delivery

  • Serve as the voice of the stakeholder by championing the prioritization of initiatives for data engineering teams.
  • Prioritize projects among competing opportunities, balance customer needs with business priorities, and articulate business rationale behind decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow architecture, engineering, and business leadership to deliver the product vision and strategy via the defined roadmap.
  • Operate under an agile model and execute efficiently in a fast-paced, maturing environment.
  • Assist engineering teams in adapting to changing priorities.
  • Oversee development and processing of various KPIs, reports, dashboards, and data solutions.
  • Engage in developing methods to assure data integrity among multiple data sources and works with accountable departments to resolve issues.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with reporting requirements.


Mature the Competency

  • Evangelize the use of data and insights across the company, educating and training teams on the art of the possible.
  • Contribute to the evolution of modern data platforms that align to data provisioning needs of the business.
  • Split time as a people manager and as a direct PM lead for key initiatives.
  • Actively develop talent within the product organization and create bench strength for all product teams including immediate succession.
  • Exercise a growth mindset thru collaboration and influence across teams.
  • Continuously monitor alignment of roadmap to business goals.
  • Establish best practices for data analysis and visualization capabilities.
  • Be an expert in Product Management practices.
  • Engage in advancing the organization towards data science and AI.


Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 10 years' experience in a related field. right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 8 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 5 years' experience in a related field; or 14 years' experience in a related field.
  • The candidate must have 5 years of product management experience including experience working on data capabilities.
  • Candidate must have several years of experience working in a leadership role in a large or fast-growing organization.
  • Demonstrated passion for data and technology innovation and the ability to lead an organization towards greater data maturity.
  • Documented experience vetting options for product direction, planning short- and long-term strategy, and gaining organizational buy-in.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to properly translate and articulate positioning and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers in research, design, and engineering.
  • Strong quantitative and business analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with both local and remote teams.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of data governance, data architecture, and data management best practices.
  • Understanding and knowledge of statistics and data analysis concepts.
  • Experience in developing Data Architecture.
  • Successful candidates will have strong analytical skills, familiarity with SQL or similar.
