Job Summary
The psychiatric unit nurse provides care for patients with behavioral health illnesses in an acute care setting.
This includes conducting intake interviews, assessing and evaluating the patient, establishing a plan of care, maintaining a safe therapeutic environment and working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
The psychiatric unit nurse may also conduct therapeutic groups.
Job Requirements
Education
A graduate degree from an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program is required.
A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Experience
Previous nursing experience is preferred.
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
The psychiatric unit nurse must demonstrate effective leadership abilities, valuable time management skills and strong critical thinking / problem solving skills.
Flexibility and the ability to work in a multi-tasking environment are also required.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
An active RN license in the state of Missouri is required.
