Job Summary
Perform administrative duties that might include, answering the phones, faxing or mailing correspondence and sending messages to physicians. Will get scripts ready for pick up, fax or call in per doctor’s orders. Initiate prior authorizations as needed or try to assist in other ways to help with cost of prescriptions. Clinical duties will include measuring and recording vital signs, charting medical/family history to include surgeries, medications and allergies. Chart chief complaint in detail and any medical treatment already performed for this complaint. Prepare room for procedures and assist physician as needed. The trained MA III will do such procedures such as EKG’s, IRIS eye exams, blood draws, UA’s and collect other lab specimens to be sent off. Be able to administer medications through various routes such as injections, oral etc.. It is imperative the Medical assistant know CPR non-rebreather mask and how to perform breathing treatments. Will need to keep supplies inventoried and reordered as needed. Rooms and equipment need to be cleaned and stocked.
Job Requirements
- Education
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduated from a formal MA training program that included pharmacology class, anatomy/physiology, the basics of medication administration, and completion of a clinical externship.
- Experience
- Required: None
- Preferred: Previous experience in work that involved direct contact with people
- Preferred: Previous experience in health care setting, particularly in an ambulatory clinic setting
- Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Carry out delegated tasks under supervision of a provider.
- Proficient Computer skills
- Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Required: Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire
- Required:Certification or Registration from a CoxHealth approved certification program: CMA/AAMA, RMA/AMT, CCMA/NHA, NRCMA/NAHP, NCMA/NCCT, RMA/AAMP; or LPN
