Coyne Veterinary Center is seeking an experienced and patient Dog Trainer to join our team!

The Dog Trainer is responsible for conducting group training sessions with clients' and their dogs, which includes evaluating dogs' dispositions and temperaments, providing regular progress updates to clients, and teaching clients how to reinforce good behavior. They should also be able to answer clients' questions regarding training and behavioral issues. We offer the potential for growth and opportunity to creatively develop additional training programs!
To be successful as a Dog Trainer, you should be patient and passionate about training dogs. Ultimately, an exceptional Dog Trainer should have sound knowledge of various dog training techniques and demonstrate excellent communication, dog handling, and problem-solving skills.
Job Responsibilities (included but not limited to) :
Teach classes to a variety of dog breeds, sizes and ages
Lead each class with an emphasis on both the safety and comfort for pets and their owners
Show patience to pets and pet parents when training their high energy puppy
Build strong bonds with all two legged and four legged members of your class
Consult with clients to discuss their behavioral concerns and training needs
Develop training plans for dogs and document their progress
Identify additional behavioral concerns and communicate them to clients
Teach dogs to obey basic commands using various training techniques that are best suited to each dog’s personality and attributes
Implement appropriate training programs to address and resolve problem areas, including aggression, separation anxiety, hyperactivity, and biting.
Ensure that the training areas are clean and tidy
Teach clients appropriate training methods to enforce and maintain behaviors and skills learned by their dogs during training sessions
Skills Needed :
Love and compassion for animals
Positive attitude
Patience and effective communication skills
At least 2 years of creditable dog training experience utilizing proper animal handling and restraint techniques
Strong understanding of canine conditioning principles and behavior modification
Strong understanding of basic and advanced obedience techniques
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Physical Obligations :
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment
Ability to clean and sanitize large areas
