A. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance, a maintenance mechanic is responsible for ensuring that machinery, equipment, and building systems are functioning efficiently and safely. The role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues.
B. POSITION DUTIES:
· Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machinery, equipment and systems.
· Perform preventive maintenance tasks to minimize equipment failures.
· Replace or repair defective parts of equipment
· Conduct routine maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical
· Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and techniques.
· Test equipment to ensure proper functionality after repairs when appropriate.
· Analyze system malfunctions and recommend solutions.
· Assemble, install and configure new machinery or mechanical systems.
· Develop and follow maintenance schedules to prevent breakdowns.
· Lubricate parts, clean equipment, and conduct routine checks to ensure optimal performance.
· Follow safety protocols and ensure equipment is maintained according to OSHA standards.
· Perform safety inspections and document findings.
· Identify potential hazards and take corrective actions.
· Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
· Manage tools, parts, and maintenance supplies.
· Ensure inventory is stocked to support timely repairs and upkeep.
· Train staff in equipment use and proper maintenance procedures if required.
C. Requirements:
· Strong mechanical experience
· Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.
· Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations.
· Computer Proficiency, including MS Office, Word and Excel and ability to learn/use basic interior design software for development of evacuation plans and reference layouts
· Knowledge of the practices and techniques of the trades in order to manage plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and masonry contractors
· Good communication skills
· Familiar with multi-trade tools and equipment
· Experience in the repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of machine shop equipment including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnosis.
· Experience working and collaborating with sub-contractors when needed
· Able to bend, knee, lift about 50 pounds of weight when needed
· Valid driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· A 24/7 facility and one must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations
· Work in all temperatures and climatic conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme depending on the situation
· Able to work in confined spaces, some require the use of protective equipment
EDUCATION:
· High School Diploma or GED with a least 3 years of experience
· Associate degree with at least 2 years of experience
· Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience
