Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. About the Lead Industrial Stack Software Engineer Position
As a Lead Industrial Stack Software Engineer, you are responsible for holistic design, and development lead for Colonial’s Field Technology solutions, including but not limited to HMI’s, Edge Compute scripting, REST APIs, and mobile applications that enhance user experience and operational efficiency in industrial automation environments. This position is heavily involved in Colonial’s modernization journey, with many opportunities to start with white sheet designs. The areas of focus will include high-performance template design, mobile interface design, implementation of enterprise-wide MQTT, and cross-functional integrations.
What You Get to Do:
Responsible for specifications, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of Field Technology applications.
Function as technical lead for assigned initiatives.
Recognized as the primary resource for one or more systems.
Design and develop HMI applications and templates, Edge Compute scripting, mobile interfaces, and REST APIs for industrial control systems.
Align with enterprise architecture policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure seamless integration with PLCs, SCADA systems, and other control devices.
Implement and test applications to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Field Technology.
Provide technical support and training to end-users and support and maintenance teams.
Stay up to date with the latest industrial technologies and industry trends.
Resolves project related anomalies and provides Product Line Director with status reports.
Responsible for system documentation, support materials, and development of training materials.
Responsible for directing and reviewing project work completed by more junior level programmers/analysts and/or contractors.
What You Bring to the Table:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
Ideally, 10 years of proven experience providing software solutions for industrial automation.
Proficiency in HMI software such as Ignition, FactoryTalk View, Proficy iFix, or similar, Ignition experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of software development principles and practices and use of Azure DevOPS.
Experience with analytics and automation scripting with Python/Jython.
Familiarity with database systems and data visualization tools.
Familiarity with historians such as AVEVA (previously OSI) PI and Canary.
Familiarity with time-series databases such as QuestDB and TimescaleDB.

Experience in industrial settings and/or with mission critical applications preferred.
Understanding of Pipeline Business processes, a plus.
