The EHS Specialist oversees the development, management and implementation of environmental, health and safety programs, coordinates safety training programs, monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to plant and corporate personnel to prevent injuries, illnesses, damage to property and ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the development, management and implementation of CPI-IN environmental, health and safety systems and programs, including but not limited to ISO 14001.
- Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance by interacting with departments that purchase equipment or coordinate services; provide recommendations and remedial actions as appropriate.
- Facilitate site safety committee meetings; lead safety action item tracking and reporting.
- Oversees and supports Supervisors/Managers with incident investigation and response; coordinates internal and external resources; develops preventative measures and continuous improvement initiatives, tracking to completion.
- Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to minimize potential loss exposures; recommend risk control techniques to eliminate or minimize loss; monitor risk management initiatives to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
- Assists in the development of capital expenditure budgets related to environmental, health and safety programs; develops and justifies budget requests.
- Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions.
- Assist with handling and processing of claims related to employees (Workers Compensation) and customer or property (General Liability) incidents, ensuring prompt and accurate action to minimize exposure and liability.
- Carry out daily operational tasks in an effective and timely manner;
- Other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with capability to effectively communicate at all levels in the organization.
- Collaborative style, must partner with stakeholders at site location(s) as well as cross-functionally.
- Analytical capabilities required to develop and produce metrics.
- Lead by example – be an advocate of safety and environmental philosophies, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Individual contributor role. Makes recommendations within scope of role. More significant decisions typically require input from leadership of the function.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience in Safety or Environmental Health & Safety preferred
- OSHA experience preferred
- Progress toward EHS credentials preferred
- Daily onsite working position
Physical Demands:
- Work spans between plant/manufacturing environment and office environment
- Requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
- Requires the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to use hands to handle, feel or reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
