CPI Power Electronics, a division of Communication & Power Industries LLC, operates a satellite communication electronics design and manufacturing
facility in State College, Pennsylvania – just a few miles from Penn State University. The State College design facility is an energetic and dynamic
organization dedicated to building the highest-reliability uplink and downlink SATCOM Radio Frequency Electronics (RFE) equipment in the satellite
industry. With a long history of innovation and a global customer base, the State College SATCOM facility continues to expand its product offerings
We are actively seeking applicants for our Engineering Internship Program with opportunities in both Spring and Summer. Our interns will work alongside
our multi-disciplined design engineering team on real design and research projects.

As a CPI intern, you will apply your classroom-learned skills to enable the design and manufacture of cutting-edge communications electronics that support
commercial, broadcast, and our national security.
The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associated with our core mission. In addition to receiving

As an intern, you’ll get to participate in projects within your role:
- Design, analyze, and test analog and digital circuitry to support microwave communications electronics. Typical circuit designs you may participate in include, but are not limited to: Op-amp-based sampling and feedback circuitry
- Linear and switching voltage regulators (low voltage)
- Precision voltage references
- Serial data communications
- Current sensing and limiting circuits, hot-swap circuitry PLLs (Non-Microwave) and low frequency clocks
- Analyze design requirements documents and select suitable electronic components
- Perform circuit analysis - both by direct calculation and by use of SPICE simulation tools
- Document designs by developing schematics, block diagrams, and analysis documents
- Develop simple Printed Circuit Board(PCB) layouts
- Communicate with other design team about requirements, design rationale, analysis of designs, and any issues clearly and openly
- Automation (with scripting) of repetitive design and test tasks using software tools like Python or Matlab
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the engineering design process, be able to solve new and unfamiliar problems and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Are familar with basic analog circuit analysis & simulation
- Are familiar with basic electronic test equipment and hand tools
- Are enthusiastic about collaborating with engineering teams to tackle challenges.
- Are comfortable using MS Office tools like Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Bring energy, curiosity, and a problem-solving mindset to their work.
- Are organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, thriving both independently and in team settings.
To qualify, you must:
- Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program Computer, Systems, Software, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Be a second-year student or higher pursuing an engineering degree.
- Must be a US citizen as this position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Applicants that are permanent residents or on student visas will not be considered.
