URBAN PLANNING INTERN
The Urban Planning Intern position is entry-level paraprofessional work. The Urban Planning Intern devotes a significant amount of time to administrative tasks. You will work closely with the public on a regular basis to provide customer service on planning issues. You may be asked to perform professional-level (Planner I) duties of limited complexity as a trainee. The Urban Planning Intern will receive immediate supervision from Project Managers and Planning Team Leads.
CORE DUTIES
- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning-related programs and ordinances
- Reviews building plans and zoning permit applications to assure compliance with requirements such as use, bulk, placement, and parking ratios
- Performs routine office tasks in designated program areas, including data entry, file management, copying, answering telephone and responding to e-mails.
- Develops and maintains automated tracking systems, hard copy files and records
- Research and compiles information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources
- Prepares public notices or property owner verifications
- Prepares maps, charts, tables of limited complexity
- Investigates violations of planning regulations and ordinances, including site visits
- Attends public meetings, assisting other planning staff as appropriate
- Sets-up drafts of staff memos for zoning-related applications
- Assembles notes / summary / minutes documents for meetings
- Assists with long-range planning projects
- Attends other meetings, as needed
- Other job duties, as determined by the supervisor
