What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Pubic Works Laborer position at CPS HR Consulting?
We will be hiring several employees by mid-March, and additional employees by mid-May. We anticipate work throughout the summer and into mid- to the end of October. Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The pay range for these positions is $15.00 to $17.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
- Specific job function will depend on crew and location assignment. Each position works as an effective part of the division and Town team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility and in a positive manner.
- Helps ensure attractive and well-maintained flowerbeds by assisting parks and cemetery workers with preparing, planting, fertilizing, weeding, mulching and winterizing flowerbeds at various locations.
- Helps to ensure attractive and well-maintained trees by assisting parks and cemetery workers with pruning, weed control, mulching, planting, and watering.
- Helps to ensure safe and attractive grounds by assisting parks and cemetery workers with mowing, sidewalk edging, leaf removal, sod laying, litter cleanup, irrigation work, aerating, fertilizing, weed control, and general landscape type work.
- Maintains dialogue and relationships with the public, special interest groups and City staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills.
- Assists with department projects as needed including special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or experience:
- One (1) year experience in parks maintenance or related field with an emphasis on duties most closely related to the essential job duties, including operating various types of equipment is preferred but not required.
Licensure and age requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Individuals who are age 16 or 17 will not be eligible to drive the Town’s trucks, automobiles or light duty vehicles.
- If age 18 or older, must possess a valid driver’s license.
Candidates must successfully pass motor vehicle record (if age 18 or over), reference, criminal history background check, and drug screen as a contingent offer of employment.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a variety of people directly and by using a two-way radio system.
- Ability to walk throughout facility grounds of various topographical conditions to visually identify needed work and inspect work results.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public including answering general park questions and assistance with reservation or special interest groups.
- Ability to take initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.
Working conditions and physical requirements:
- Strenuous physical work, exposure to extreme heat and/or cold weather conditions, working and walking on various topographical environments, exposure to insects and other fauna and flora indigenous to the Town of Eaton area.
- Operating various types of tools and equipment associated with landscape or facility maintenance.
- Lifting, positioning, carrying and stocking heavy items and materials.
- Removing snow by hand with shovel and snow blower.
- Digging, sweeping, raking various landscaping materials.
Salary : $15 - $17
