Area Leader, Traffic Engineering
Position Summary: The Area Lead - Traffic Engineer will be responsible for driving business development efforts while leveraging technical expertise in traffic data collection. This role involves a combination of client-facing activities such as business development, proposal creation, networking events, market analysis, and some technical work (10%), with a focus on building strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders, including VDOT and others in the traffic control and safety industry.
This role can be performed remotely in Northern VA, Baltimore, or DC areas with travel to meetings and customer sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead business development (BD) efforts, including writing proposals and responding to client inquiries.
- Conduct market analysis for the VA region and identify opportunities for growth.
- Partner with VDOT and other key agencies, getting hands-on to understand client needs and deliver value.
- Leverage expertise in PTOE and advanced traffic control to speak intelligently with clients and establish credibility.
- Attend industry events and build a strong professional network.
- Travel frequently to visit clients and traffic engineers alongside team members.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and execute strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to the company’s expansion by providing insights and recommendations based on market conditions.
Qualifications:
- PTOE certification or equivalent experience in traffic engineering and road safety.
- Strong business development acumen with a proven track record of building client relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; personable and approachable.
- Ability to travel frequently across Northern VA, DC, and Baltimore regions.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
