Job Summary
Our Shop and Yard Mechanic will play a vital role in our construction operations and day-to-day business operations. The Shop and Yard Mechanic will assist in the daily operations of the construction division shop and equipment yard including housekeeping, equipment assembly, and maintenance of materials and equipment. This role will be essential in smooth project execution and will be required to keep a safe, organized, and efficient shop and yard.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES [TRAVEL, SUPERVISORY EXPECTATION, ETC.]
- Assist in receiving, storing, and organizing construction materials and equipment in the shop and yard
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance; ensure prompt reporting of any malfunctions, repairs or safety concerns on equipment
- Perform maintenance and repair on small motors, diesel motors, and hydraulics
- Partner with the foreman, crew leaders, and crew members to ensure proper care and maintenance of all equipment and materials
- Report on materials used, equipment maintenance performed, and progress of various shop and yard projects
- Assist the Division Manager in inventory management by tracking supplies and reporting shortages of materials or safety equipment
- Follow project management direction on needed equipment; manage and organize all necessary equipment for crews based on the project
- Knowledge and skills in welding and fabrication
- Ability to adhere to all safety regulations and company policies
- Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
- Ability to communicate and work in team environments
- Strong attention to detail when maintaining and working on company equipment
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 100 lbs at a time and perform strenuous tasks
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for 8-10 hours a day
- 1-2 years of construction experience preferred
- Experience working with small engine equipment including hydraulic systems, trailers, and other electrical repairs; maintaining and keeping it in working condition
- Forklift Certification and Commercial Drivers License Preferred
- Specialty experiences working with Crafco Sealers and Routers, Graco Paint Carts, Kubota Tractors and Fabric Implements, and Bearcat Distributors preferred but not required
- Required to be able to organize and manage inventory
- Working in a construction shop; high volumes of materials and equipment
- Working in an outdoor yard space in differing weather conditions
- Working a standard 40-hour week on a schedule with the ability to be flexible with some weekend work
- Travel may required about 25-50% of the time to perform in the field repairs
