We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to join our team as a Sommelier & Captain. In this unique hybrid role, some evenings you will be responsible for providing exceptional wine expertise as a Sommelier and other nights creating a seamless and elevated guest experience as a Captain. You will be an integral part of our service team, bringing a high level of professionalism, passion for food and beverage, and leadership to ensure that each guest enjoys a memorable experience. As this is an interchangeable role, you will be scheduled to take on either responsibility depending on business needs, ensuring flexibility and versatility in service.
Key Responsibilities:
Sommelier Duties:
- Curate and maintain the restaurant’s wine list, ensuring it is reflective of the restaurant’s concept, seasonality, and guest preferences.
- Provide expert wine pairing recommendations to enhance the dining experience.
- Conduct wine tastings, lead educational sessions for staff, and keep the team updated on wine trends and industry knowledge.
- Maintain wine cellar and inventory, tracking stock levels and ensuring proper storage conditions.
- Offer wine service, including proper presentation and decanting, while providing excellent service during service times.
- Ensure that guests have an exceptional wine experience, offering detailed knowledge and guidance on wine selection.
Captain Duties:
- Oversee the front-of-house service, ensuring smooth and efficient operations throughout the dining experience.
- Act as the primary point of contact between guests and the kitchen, ensuring that orders are executed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Lead and coordinate the front-of-house team, including servers, runners, and hosts, providing direction, support, and training.
- Greet guests with warmth and professionalism, assist in seating arrangements, and make them feel welcome throughout their dining experience.
- Monitor and manage the flow of the dining room, adjusting seating assignments, and managing service timing.
- Resolve any guest complaints or concerns promptly, ensuring satisfaction and loyalty.
- Help in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the dining area.
Qualifications:
- Sommelier Certification (e.g., WSET Level 2/3, Court of Master Sommeliers) preferred, or equivalent wine knowledge/experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a Sommelier role or similar high-end restaurant setting.
- Captain experience in a fine-dining or upscale restaurant is a must, with at least 2-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of food, beverage, and hospitality standards.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a passion for wine, service excellence, and a dedication to improving both individual and team performance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
