POSITION TITLE: Math Specialist
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with a Mathematics Specialist endorsement.
- Have at least three years successful, full-time classroom teaching experience at the K-7 level required
- Provide evidence of significant participation and implementation into practice of research-based professional growth opportunities in mathematics and mathematics education.
- Have experience working with differentiating instruction to meet student needs.
- Have experience working with students and staff in multiple grade levels.
- Have experience in providing staff development in mathematics content, in mathematics instructional strategies, and in using assessment to inform instruction.
- Have appropriate written and verbal communication skills when interacting with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Have effective time-management and organizational skills.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work days with benefits according to the teacher negotiated agreement
ESSENTIAL TASKS/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Direct Instruction of Students – will provide direct instruction in the areas of Mathematics for identified groups and individual students
- Identify mathematics for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum
- Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that support school division initiatives
- Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction
- Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools
- Participate in collaborative instructional planning
- Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
- Participate in parent meetings, IEP meetings, etc. to provide instruction suggestions
- Work collaboratively with the building administration to review data to develop and assist in building level professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
