Introduction:
CRAIG HOSPITAL, internationally renowned for excellence in the rehabilitative care of patients who have sustained a traumatically induced spinal cord or brain injury, is seeking a full-time Inpatient hospital Pharmacy Technician. Variable shifts with no night shifts. Pharmacy technicians with inpatient hospital experience preparing intravenous preparation and stocking automated dispensing machines are preferred. Excellent attention to detail and general computer skills are required. State Board of Pharmacy registration and national certification are required prior to hire.
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this document is to describe the duties, responsibilities, experience and education and certification requirements of a pharmacy technician. Organizational, patient and customer service standards are also described.
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the pharmacy technician is responsible for performing technical functions required for the delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients. The Pharmacy Technician may also be responsible for assisting with the purchase, receipt and stocking of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
Position Requirements:
Education - High school diploma or equivalent emphasis on science, math, and typing.
Experience - One year as a pharmacy technician preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: State Board Registration and National Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Essential Functions:
- Processes credits for returned medications
- Fills prescriptions and drug orders on a regular and timely basis
- Restocks automated drug dispensing cabinets
- Refers unresolved problems to appropriate individuals in a timely manner
- Files all Records/Reports
- Performs quality assurance assignments and tasks
- Checks for and pulls outdated drugs from stock following policy
- Notifies supervisor immediately if unusual occurrences occur with narcotics and/or outdated medications, inventory or deliveries
- Identifies issues of concern and reports those situations to a supervisor
- Assists pharmacists with the data entry of patient-specific information – refill requests, missing meds, etc;
- Requires understanding of and ability to work with a pharmacy information system
- Completes specific job duties of an assigned daily position in a thorough and accurate manner.
- Accepts individual responsibility and accountability for performance; accepts constructive criticism with a teachable attitude
- Performs additional duties as directed
- Maintains accurate documentation and ensures proper distribution of narcotics; is knowledgeable of and follows controlled substance regulations
- Knowledgeable of drug names and dosing directions (ex. Latin abbreviations that are commonly used in medicine).
- Communicates and solves problems effectively with coworkers and customers
- Ability to complete and transmit supplemental orders SMO
- Participates in the training and orientation of other staff.
- Prepares IV Solutions and other sterile products
- Completes all dispensing and quality assurance records correctly, thoroughly, and on time
- Familiar with and properly employ aseptic techniques
- Able to perform independent calculations accurately
- Completes IV Rounds
- Cleans and stocks IV and Unit Dose Areas
- Performs basic drug compounding (ointments, creams, oral solutions, etc.) under pharmacists' supervision.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated and working correctly on a routine basis and troubleshoot equipment problems when they occur
- Ensures all controlled substance records have been received, and daily counts are correct; Reports Discrepancies
- Distributes STAT and non-STAT medications and other items to patient care units
