Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking a talented BIOLOGIST II to join our team in Oregon!

This position reports to our Portland Fish Ecology office but will primarily operate out of Eugene, OR, supporting projects in the surrounding area. Responsibilities include overseeing PIT tagging operations, reservoir sampling at Green Peter and Lookout Point, and conducting juvenile Chinook salmon population assessments on Quartzville Creek and the Middle Santiam River. The role involves a mix of office and field work, including beach seining, snorkel surveys, PIT tagging and releasing juvenile Chinook, gillnetting, operating Oneida traps, and performing limnological sampling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of senior science staff:
  • Provide guidance and oversee study implementation including hypothesis testing, data collection, and quality control for the projects in the Willamette Valley
  • Ensure all field crews are following safety protocols
  • Perform technical writing and data analysis as assigned
  • Perform QA/QC of data collected in the field
  • Provide project updates on a weekly basis.
  • Serve as a task lead on Willamette Valley projects and supervise and train Technicians to conduct project work
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and in working order
  • Coordinate data collection, database management, and communication with subcontractors
  • Attend and present at scientific meetings
  • Conduct literature reviews and increase familiarity with scientific literature relevant to projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/QUALFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in fisheries, biology, or equivalent science-related field with 5 years of experience in biologist roles (Master's degree in a science-related discipline may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • Demonstrated skills in data management, graphical representation and statistical analysis of data, and developing presentations and reports.
  • Experience leading a team, including personnel scheduling, budget tracking, and deliverable completion
  • Ability to lead, train, and supervise teams while fostering collaboration and moral
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a commitment to outstanding customer service
  • A valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience sampling juvenile Chinook using rotary screw traps, seines, gill nets, and fyke/Oneida nets
  • Experience conducting snorkel surveys
  • Experience PIT tagging juvenile salmonids
  • Experience working with ESA listed species
  • Experience working in the Willamette Valley
  • Experience with GIS and statistical software (e.g. R)
  • Wilderness First Aid/CPR and Swift Water Rescue Certification
  • Master's degree in fisheries, aquatic ecology, or similar discipline

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work prolonged periods of computerized data analysis in an office setting
  • Ability to work in the aquatic environment including working from a boat platform, swimming and wading in rivers and streams
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, fog), including driving in such conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends and evenings) and travel to remote areas for 4-5 days at a time.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 (Dependent on experience)
