Geneticist/Molecular Biologist

Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking a GENETICIST/MOLECULAR BIOLOGIST to join our Genidaqs team in West Sacramento!

The Geneticist/Molecular Biologist will work with the Director of Laboratory Services and Business Development Group to lead research and development in genetic research, using techniques such as metabarcoding, qPCR, microsatellites, and NGS. This role provides technical leadership on complex, multi-partner projects in genetics, molecular ecology, and environmental modeling, and is responsible for developing bioinformatic pipelines and procedural workflows. This individual will also be trained in business development and client communication.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead, train, supervise, and support field crews and technicians across multiple projects, including hands-on work with laboratory techniques aligned with project protocols.
• Design and implement rigorous scientific studies; test hypotheses, collect and analyze data, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
• Collaborate with project managers to develop project scopes and budgets that align with client needs.
• Manage genetic data workflows, including acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and visualization; maintain databases and generate scripts in R, Python, or other languages to curate datasets.
• Apply statistical methods to support genetic and molecular ecological studies and communicate findings through reports, manuscripts, and conferences.
• Represent Genidaqs-CFS at scientific conferences and contribute to the field through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
• Provide technical direction to key staff and collaborate with peers and leadership to meet project objectives.
• Lead the development and implementation of new initiatives and large-scale projects.
• Travel to the Genidaqs lab as needed for training and business development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in the Biological Sciences or a related field, with an emphasis in molecular/evolutionary biology or population genetics.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a laboratory bench or computer
• Ability to comfortably use standard laboratory equipment, including pipettes, centrifuges, and PCR machines
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Occasional work outdoors in variable weather conditions and remote locations during field visits or project support.
• Travel to the Genidaqs lab in West Sacramento or other locations may be required for training, collaboration, or business development.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending upon experience. 401(k) has a 3% match and full vesting after one year. The annual cash bonus has a 3% target. The benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, basic life, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, paid time off, paid company holidays, and other various voluntary benefits.

ESOP: CFS is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employee stock option plan (ESOP) is a qualified defined contribution plan. Our target ESOP contribution is 5%. Eligibility is after one year of service with an entry date of Jan 1 or July 1.
