Crandall & Katt, Attorneys at Law, a prestigious law firm in Roanoke, is seeking a Senior HR Generalist / Backup Intake Specialist. This full-time position offers hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no weekend work required.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
HR Generalist Duties:
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires and departing employees.
- Lead the annual review and update of firm policies, job descriptions, and onboarding materials to ensure they remain relevant, compliant, and effective.
- In partnership with Firm Administrator and Bookkeeping, manage and budget for employee engagement programs and annual events, ensuring the firm’s culture is supported and strengthened through team-building activities.
- Advise and support leadership on employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure HR compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, including wage and hour laws, safety regulations, and workplace policies.
- Maintain and update employee records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal requirements.
- Administer employee benefits and payroll functions as needed, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Conduct exit interviews and assist with the offboarding process for departing employees.
- Conduct training and workshops on HR-related topics to ensure employees are well-informed of company policies and practices.
Backup Intake Specialist Duties:
- Perform administrative assistant duties as needed.
- Handle new client intake, ensuring a professional and empathetic process for potential clients.
- In partnership with Senior Intake Specialist, screen and assess new cases to ensure they meet the firm’s criteria.
- Input new client files into case management system, ensuring all necessary information is collected and filed in accordance with firm’s standards.
Skills

- In-depth knowledge of HR processes, best practices, and legal requirements.
- Proven ability to build and foster strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a focus on employee engagement and development.
- Proficiency in HR software and MS Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and a detail-oriented approach to tasks.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership and staff across departments.
Experience
- Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an HR Generalist, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role or equivalent.
- Experience in full employee lifecycle management (recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, offboarding, etc.) or equivalent..
- Experience with employee engagement programs, policy updates, and budgeting for firm events or equivalent.
- Administrative experience, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.
- Preferred:
- Experience as an Intake Specialist or in a similar client-facing administrative role in a law firm.
- Familiarity with HR software platforms such as CBIZ or ADP.
Education
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR, or SPHR) is a plus.
- Language
- Required: English
- Preferred: Bilingual (English Spanish is a plus)
