The Installation Technician is responsible for the accurate layout, installation, and assembly of bridge crane systems and supporting structures. This role requires experience in steel erection, welding, and fabrication assembly and an understanding of critical safety and compliance standards including OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and DOT/FMCSA. The technician will work independently or as part of a team to ensure crane systems are installed safely, accurately, and within required specifications. Travel is required for this role, on average, 9 days out of town per month.

Installation Technician Role & Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Layout of Crane Systems:
    • Perform layout, alignment, and installation of bridge crane systems, ensuring precision and compliance with engineering specifications.
    • Conduct measurements, leveling, and adjustments for accurate placement of crane systems.
  • Steel Erection and Assembly:
    • Assist in steel erection and ensure the secure attachment of structural components, beams, and supports.
    • Operate lifting and rigging equipment safely for the erection and placement of steel structures.
  • Welding and Fabrication:
    • Perform welding and metal fabrication as necessary for the installation of crane systems and supporting structures.
    • Inspect and prepare welds to meet structural integrity standards and quality requirements.
  • Compliance and Safety Adherence:
    • Ensure installation processes comply with OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
    • Maintain a safe work environment, following all company safety protocols and federal/state regulations.
    • Perform risk assessments and identify potential hazards, ensuring that all safety equipment is utilized.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot installation issues, making adjustments and repairs as necessary.
    • Provide technical support to clients and team members on installation and operation procedures.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Complete installation documentation and reports, detailing tasks performed, safety checks, and any issues encountered.
    • Maintain accurate records of installations for compliance and quality assurance purposes.
Installation Technician Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in crane system installation, steel erection, welding, and fabrication.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in layout techniques, welding (MIG, TIG, Stick), fabrication, rigging, and alignment tools.
  • Certifications: NCCCO Signalperson and Rigging, Welding certification preferred; familiarity with OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations and standards.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to operate machinery and tools for extended periods deemed necessary to safely complete task(s). Comfortable working at heights up to 50’ using scissor-lifts/boom-lifts and able to routinely lift 75 pounds.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company driving requirements.


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Experience with crane safety inspection procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with project teams.
