Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing the manufacturing operations, implementing the processes, and providing shop floor leadership to hourly associates. This position will be a leader in the production ramp-up of the Conroe manufacturing site for Crane’s growing cryogenic business. As manager, this role will provide direction and coaching in a manufacturing and assembly environment that is focused on safety, quality, delivery, and profitable growth. This position will have direct responsibility over a team of welders, welder helpers, machinists, and material handlers.
Principle Responsibilities:
Value Stream Management
- · Maintains a high safety mindset and does not tolerate unnecessary risk-taking.
- · Actively participates and encourages associates to partake in the site’s safety efforts.
- · Manages the activities of the shop floor and follows established procedures and approved processes.
- · Supervises all production operations such as fabrication, machining, welding, packaging, shipping and receiving.
- · Responsible for deploying continuous improvement within the shop floor; innovator of positive change that favorably impacts safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth profitability, inventory turns, on-time delivery, lead-time, and quality effectiveness are measured primarily through Operational Excellence metrics.
- · Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- · Implements manufacturing processes and provides feedback to manufacturing and welding engineers by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
- · Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- · Analyze problems, account for variances, drive for root cause, and implement improved methods and procedures; create, review, and update improvement plans.
- · Assures product and process quality through Poka yoke systems and implements IAFT 16949 core tools.
- · Assure that appropriate equipment is provided, adequately maintained and safely operated.
- · Assure that capacity levels are maintained to match demand in the short term and long term; participate in long-range planning and budget preparation.
- · Creates and maintains production schedules.
- · Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports to senior management.
- · Enter production data into databases as needed.
- · Creates associate work schedule, maintains and approves timecards.
- · Develop key employees; participate in company dialogues regarding employee performance to assure that deserving employees are recognized and that under-performing employees are given the direction required to improve their performance.
- · Trains associates on standard work instructions.
- · Maintain and improve “visual management” throughout areas of responsibility.
- · Enforces code of conduct and attendance .
- · Conducts monthly operations review to forecast expected output, shipments, and costs.
- · Promotes a positive, collaborative, continuous improvement environment with a focus on “winning everyday”.
- · All other tasks as directed by manager.
Qualifications/Experience:
- · Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or Operations Management or related field, Masters in Engineering or Business discipline a plus.
- · Unimpeachable ethics.
- · Two to five years of prior experience in people management or closely related role with proven leadership ability.
- · Advanced body of knowledge of Lean techniques with track record of implementation.
- · Must have thorough knowledge of production scheduling and enterprise MRP systems.
- · Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- · Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- · Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- · Solid decision-making skills.

- · Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- · Must be familiar with product construction and application.

- · Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
- · Will be computer literate, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications.
