SUMMARY

The job of Arizona State University Teaching Fellow is reserved to current Crane employees that have been approved to participate in the ASU Teaching Fellows program.  The Program is an innovative program designed to provide individuals employed as classroom instructional aides, paraprofessionals, instructional professionals, or equivalents (“Instructional Support Positions”) with an accelerated pathway to a bachelor’s degree in teaching.  This position is only available for current Crane employees that have been approved to participate in the ASU Teaching Fellow program.  Essential functions below meet ASU’s requirements to participate in the program.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS __ Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • ASU Teaching Fellow will be employed as an Instructional Support Position that aligns with the relevant Program area for which they are seeking certification to teach per Arizona regulations – e.g. elementary education or special education.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow is employed in an Instructional Support Positions for a minimum of 18 hours per week during the school year while participating in the Program.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow will spend the majority of their working time dedicated to classroom or instructional duties.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow will have access to qualified mentor teachers/coaches, who provide regular and frequent job-embedded feedback and coaching related to instructional and professional practices and modeling. Such teachers/coaches will be provided by the School District.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow in Elementary Education may hold positions requiring a Student Teaching Intern Certificate but must be provided with a qualified mentor teacher/coach on-site by the School District.
  • ASU Teaching Fellows will participate once per month (4 times in the fall semester and 4 times in the spring semester) in full-day in-person learning community sessions with ASU faculty/staff.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow must participate in video-recorded lessons, to be submitted to ASU faculty teaching in the ASUTF Program.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow will be provided opportunities to participate in educator professional responsibilities, meetings, and professional learning.
  • ASU Teaching Fellow will be required to be observed and provided written feedback by their mentor teacher/coach or a school administrator, at least once per semester, in person or (as approved by ASU) remotely.
  • District mentor teachers/coaches will be provided opportunities to participate in professional learning at ASU, as desired and appropriate, as invited by ASU by the Office of Professional Experiences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • Job related experience within a specialized field is required
  • Associates degree or approaching completion with minimal deficiencies

 

Knowledge of:
  • District and department policies and procedures.
  • Pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stopping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Work year, salary and benefits as established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION

 

Evaluation of this position will be performed by the Executive Director of Human Resources in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.

 

 

COMPENSATION

Current Governing Board approved employee wage. In the event the ASU Fellow is in a position that is discontinued, they may be hired in an alternate classroom based position.
