Job Summary: The Shop Foreman is responsible for coordinating and expediting the flow of work and materials within or between the service and parts departments according to service schedule. Manage shop mechanics and help direct multiple ongoing repair jobs.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate 10-15 shop crane and truck mechanics on ongoing repairs according to service schedule dictated by Service Manager.
  • Obtain miles, hours, and any other meter tracked information for each machine on a repair order.
  • Ascertain immediate course of action by listening to customers’ description of symptoms.
  • Help service writers and service manager prepare repair orders by describing symptoms, problems, and causes discovered, as well as repairs and services required.
  • Maintain contact with customers by explaining estimates, providing status updates to customers, and ETAs of job completion via phone.
  • Take information gathered from shop technicians to populate service databases and, when necessary, ask questions where discrepancies exist to provide a full and complete story in the service database systems.
  • Review completed work from the service department and perform quality of work inspection checks.
  • Help maintain any status tracking systems for repairs used by the service department (internal software, Karmak, spreadsheets, whiteboards, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • High school diploma or GED is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in diagnosing and repairing mobile cranes, haul trucks and other heavy equipment.
  • Minimum proficiency in MS Office Suite of products.
  • Some supervisory and training experience is required.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment while keeping safety as a focus point.
  • Ability to work in an environment where loud noises and extreme temperatures (hot and cold) are likely.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
