What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at Crawford Area Transportation Authority?
The Mechanic 1 is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of buses, vans, cars, and trucks in an efficient and timely manner.
· Approach oversight of Authority objectives with integrity and respect
· Ensure vehicles are maintained in accordance to our preventative maintenance schedule as determined by the Authority
· Determine causes of operating errors, formulating plan of correction, and ordering parts as necessary
· Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
· Assist in preparing Public Transportation Vehicles for daily service, including fueling, cleaning, positioning, and parking buses, as required
· Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
· Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition
· Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
· Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
· Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
· Raise trucks, buses, and heavy equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
· Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions
· Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to specifications
· Inspect defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges
· Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels
· Align front ends and suspension systems
· Perform state inspections & record information as required by law on fleet vehicles
· Document all work completed on a work order in the Fleet Information Management System
Qualifications
A. EDUCATION/TRAINING
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake restriction lifted and Passenger Endorsements required (can be obtained during employment probationary period).
- Must maintain PA State inspection license
B. WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2-5 years of experience in automotive mechanical repair preferred
- Experience with fleet maintenance preferred
C. CLEARANCES
• Must obtain Act 151 PA Child Abuse History Clearance and Act 34 PA State Police Criminal Clearance
- Must not appear on Preclusion Lists as defined by “Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Bulletin 99-11-05 Provider Screening of Employees and Contractors for Exclusion from Participating in Federal Healthcare Programs.â€
