What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech-Language Pathologist position at Crawford County Memorial Hospital?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates levels of swallowing, speech, language, and communication difficulty.
- Identifies treatment options.
- Creates and carry’s out individualized treatment plans including therapy and interventions addressing specific functional needs.
- Educates patients on how to make sounds while improving their voices and maintaining fluency.
- Helps individuals improve sentence structure and vocabulary used in written and oral language.
- Establish patient understanding, expectations, and goals for treatment.
- Works with adults and children in developing and strengthening muscles used to swallow.
- Counsels’ individuals and families on ways to cope with swallowing and communication disorders.
- Stays up to date with advancements in the field by attending conferences, completing continuing education, conducting research, and/or expanding professional and academic networks.
- Evaluates patient progress and implementing changes to therapy programs as required.
- Complete administrative tasks, including the recording of client’s progress during and after treatment and maintenance of client records.
- Conduct periodic screenings.
- Prescribe modified diet plans for clients experiencing difficulty swallowing and symptoms of dysphagia.
- Consult with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal treatment outcomes.

Professional Requirements:
- Complete annual education requirements.

Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology (SLP) from an accredited program.
- A current license to practice speech therapy in the state of Iowa.
- Certification form the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Dependent Adult and Child Abuse required within six months of employment, Required.
