Position Summary
The Clinic Biller is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while performing a variety of clerical duties related to compiling itemized bills, verifying patient insurance coverage, computing patient insurance benefits and following up on AIR in a timely manner. Works closely with the Admitting, Medical Records, and Physician's office staff.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Completes claim forms, submits claims to proper agencies I insurance companies; ensures billing numbers, other identifiers and revenue codes are used appropriately; identifies claim problems and resolves in a timely manner; ensures closed AIR balance is not altered with claim corrections or adjustments.
- Contacts patients/insurance companies to collect unpaid insurance claims; identifies and refunds patient and insurance credits; reads and explains account detail activity to patients; understands and reviews financial assistance program.
- Ensures knowledge and use of coding modifiers as appropriate.
- Performs as a backup to Clinic Accounts Receivable Clerk position proficient in insurance and patient payment posting, recording refunds on patient accounts, balancing deposits with transactions; posts contractual adjustments correctly per EOB and contract guidelines.
- Stays informed on changes in Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial plans and other Healthcare changes which affect billing and reimbursement methods and procedures.
- Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- High School diploma/Equivalent Required
- Associate's Degree in related field Preferred
Experience Requirements
- Healthcare Insurance/ Billing minimum 1 year Preferred
Computer Skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Additional Skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, be professional, polished and articulate well
- Knowledge of criteria for Medicare, Medicaid, HMO and private insurance
