Compensation Analyst
Where: Springfield, IL; St Louis, MO; Indianapolis, IN
Salary Range: $60,000 - $100,000

To do this, we are searching for a Compensation Analyst, a new position within our Human Resources team, to help us build and scale compensation strategies that support our people and our business goals. Working within the Human Resources team, and alongside key stakeholders and business leaders, the successful candidate will be responsible for researching, analyzing, and recommending our pay structure to ensure it is competitive and aligned with market trends, by evaluating job roles, conducting salary surveys, and applying knowledge of compensation laws to develop fair pay ranges for employees across different positions within the company; working within the Human Resources department.
As a key member of our team, you will collaborate cross-functionally with firm leaders, technical staff, and fellow HR professionals to develop and craft strategies or processes for compensation events & best practices. Your work will have a direct impact on elevating CMT’s HR team to ensure our salary structure is competitive in today’s ever-changing business market. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Market research - Conduct salary surveys and analyze industry data to benchmark company compensation as compared to competitors.
- Job analysis - Evaluate job descriptions to determine the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for each position.
- Data analysis - Utilize data analysis tools to interpret compensation trends and identify potential pay disparities.
- Compensation recommendations - Provide recommendations to HR leadership regarding salary adjustments, promotions, and new hire compensation based on data analysis.
- Compliance management – Ensure compensation practices comply with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
- Reporting and presentations - Prepare reports and presentations to communicate compensation insights to stakeholders
- Compensation structure development - Design and managing pay structures, including salary ranges, pay grades, and incentive plans.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Analytical skills - Strong ability to analyze large datasets, interpret trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Research skills - Expertise in conducting market research, including salary surveys and industry reports.
- HR knowledge – Strong understanding of compensation principles, job evaluation methodologies, and HR best practices.
- Data proficiency - Proficiency with data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, PowerBI, statistical analysis programs)
- Communication skills - Ability to clearly communicate complex data and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail - High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling sensitive compensation data.
- Problem solving skills - Critical thinking skills to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions
- Teamwork - Demonstrated responsiveness, professionalism
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in human resources, business management, or a related field
- 5-10 years of human resources compensation analysis experience, preferably within a similar industry or professional services employer.
- Familiarity with job leveling and compensation surveys
- Experience with HRIS systems, (ADP Workforce Now or similar preferred)
- Knowledge of relevant compensation practices, laws and regulations
- Experience supporting multi-state compensation programs, preferred
Physical Requirements
- Office tasks: Physical requirements are minimal and include prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Will require travel on occasion that could be outside of normal business hours
