Qualifications
- Working knowledge of court procedures, legal documents, and legal terminology
- Working knowledge of digital audio recording technology including software and hardware
- Proficient with the use of computer technology including software applications and web-conferencing platforms, including Zoom and Webex
- Must have own reporting equipment:
- Laptop or desktop *with camera and microphone to capture your voice only*
- Mixer
- Headset
- Ample hard drive space to record audio files directly to machine
- Back-up recording device
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills and possess a strong sense of discretion
- Professional dress and demeanor
- Required: 3 years’ experience as a digital reporter OR legal videographer. Or 1 year experience with AAERT certification
- Certifications: AAERT (CER® or CDR®) preferred but not required
- Have or will become a notary at company’s request
- Ability to pass a federal- or state-approved background check
Responsibilities
- The Digital Court Reporter serves as an independent, neutral party and is responsible for capturing and preserving the audio record, which results in the verbatim record of depositions and other judicial proceedings.
- The duties will be performed using digital recording technology based on the company’s best practices.
- Provide setup of hardware for proceedings according to job specifications and ensure all hardware is tested immediately prior to commencement of the proceeding.
- Produce a quality and complete audio recording of the proceeding.
- Create detailed log notes and annotations of essential testimony for search, review, and transcription purposes.
- Provide playback of testimony and marking of exhibits when requested.
- Prepare and maintain all required reports, logs, and timely respond to all received communications.
Role
- Hourly, independent contractor
- Typical hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday; paid at a rate of $30.00 - $37.50, based on experience and certifications
- Evening, weekend, and holiday hours include a pay differential
