Education and Experience
- License as a Marriage and Family Therapist, or Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern who is under the supervision of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist OR
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker OR
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor OR
- Licensed Psychologist, or a Physician who is certified in psychiatry by the Medical Board of California, the Board of Behavioral Sciences, or the Board of Psychology, within the Department of Consumer Affairs OR
- License as a Clinical Social Worker, or Associate Clinical Social Worker who is under the supervision of either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a licensed Mental Health Professional by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, within the Department of Consumer Affairs OR
- License as an Educational Psychologist issued by a licensing agency within the Department of Consumer Affairs OR
- License in psychology, or who are working under supervision of a licensed psychologist, both regulated by the Board of Psychology, within the Department of Consumer Affairs OR
- Pupil Personnel Services Credential, which authorizes school counseling or school psychology OR
- License as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, or a Professional Clinical Counselor Registered Intern who is under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, or a Physician who is certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- Preferred experience working with Emotionally Disturbed (ED) children or Special Education students in a school setting.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and insurance requirements
- Must pass a DOJ, FBI, and Child Abuse index clearance
- Valid California driver's license
- Good driving record: Department of Motor Vehicles printout required
- Must pass LIC 503 Health Screening Report and TB clearance
Ability to:
- Effectively provide special education counseling services to students in an educational setting.
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks daily.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, parents, students and outside professionals.
- Collaborate with outside agencies and parents in a professional manner.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
- Work hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Act as school liaison with mental health and other community agencies.
- Attend and participate in all student IEPs with counseling services listed.
- Assist teachers with writing goals and objectives for student IEPs.
- Consult with teachers and administrators on student BIPs.
- Schedule and conduct individual and group counseling as needed per student IEPs.
- Participate in outside agency meetings as needed for students in residential settings.
- Implement or assist the school with student transcripts (9th-12th grade only).
- Assist teachers with placing students in courses of study required by their respective school districts (9-12th grade only).
- Manage all student risk/threat assessments and determine if law enforcement involvement is necessary for student safety.
- Ensure that students receive appropriate career/life (educational or occupational) development assistance.
- Fill in as needed with crisis intervention and classroom duties.
- Advise on school suspensions, expulsions, and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate medication delivery and dissemination to classrooms.
- Assist in California Department of Education (CDE) recertification process.
- Maintain appropriate note taking of student sessions as required by CDE.
- Assist school with CPS reporting.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to bend at the waist, kneel, crouch, climb and balance.
- Must be able to read, write, and visually see clients.
- Must be able to hear with or without the use of hearing aid(s) sufficient to hear conversations with others, understandable voice, and speech patterns.
- Must have manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Must have use of hands to handle and/or feel; reach with hands and arms.
- Must lift, push, pull or carry up to 25 lbs.
