Position Summary:

The Senior GESI Advisor will provide GESI leadership and capacity building to the USAID-funded, 5-year Leveraging Education Assistance Resources in Nigeria (LEARN) Project. This includes updating the project’s GESI Analysis and GESI Action plan, and providing ongoing review of materials to ensure effective GESI integration.

 

The Senior GESI Advisor will work closely with the COP, DCOP, and senior Technical Leads of the project, as well as the HQ Project Director and Project Manager. This position will ideally help recruit and build the capacity of a Gender and Inclusion Advisor for the project.

 

The position is envisioned to provide up to 100 days of LOE per year for up to two years. This includes anticipated travel two to four times per year.

 

Reporting & Supervision:

 

This position reports to the Project Director.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate updates to the project’s GESI analysis based on USAID feedback.
  • Lead the development of the project’s GESI Action Plan with specific recommendations tailored to project objectives and activity level gender and inclusion related indicators.
  • Partner with project leadership to review and integrate GESI into project activities.
  • Provide recommendations on any anticipated costs related to GESI integration in project activities.
  • Develop and review GESI materials such as approaches, tools, training agenda, training manuals/presentations for activities at national and state levels.
  • Conduct staff and partner training sessions.
  • Work with program staff to identify and engage relevant local stakeholders to support GESI work and assist in institutionalizing interventions.
  • Develop/review GESI interventions reports such as technical briefs, capacity building reports, assessment reports and other related reports.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of a project Gender and Inclusion Advisor.
  • Develop a long-term capacity building plan for project Gender and Inclusion Advisor.

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area, preferably in gender, sociology, social work, psychology, (BA and an additional 3 years of experience may be substituted);
  • At least 8 years of technical experience in gender and social inclusion in international settings, particularly within the field of education;
  • Demonstrated capacity strengthening experience, including developing and conducting trainings, mentorship, and coaching of government, local, and community partners;
  • Strong understanding of Do No Harm principles, gender mainstreaming and gender equality and social inclusion principles and methodologies, including disability inclusion;
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure gender and social inclusion integration in project design, implementation, and M&E;
  • Experience with a USAID-funded or other international organization implementing a program operating in insecure areas is desired;
  • Experience building the capacity of local staff;
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience writing project reports and analyses for USG-funded projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Position Location: Remote eligible; travel to Nigeria required
