Senior Accountant
Are you a seasoned accounting professional with a strong attention to detail and a drive for process improvement? We're seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team and play a critical role in financial oversight, compliance, and strategic financial planning. This role requires expertise in managing financial transactions, enhancing internal controls, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reconciliation - Ensure accuracy in financial records through reconciliation and balancing of accounts.
Expense Management & Compliance - Review and validate expenditures to align with research contracts, general accounts, and institutional guidelines.
Regulatory Compliance & Policy Interpretation - Interpret and enforce regulations from the Institute, University System of Georgia (USG), and federal / state entities to ensure organizational compliance.
Financial Reporting & Analysis - Conduct financial analyses for projects, generate tailored reports, and provide insights to leadership and key stakeholders.
Journal Entries & Financial Closures - Manage journal entries, execute month-end and year-end closings, and ensure timely financial reporting.
Process & System Improvements - Develop and refine internal fiscal procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure adherence to best practices.
Audit & Compliance Reviews - Conduct internal audits to evaluate financial controls, compliance, and adherence to accounting policies.
Strategic Financial Monitoring - Maintain and improve reporting systems to track financial and contractual project statuses.
Continuous Process Enhancement - Identify areas for process improvement, strengthen internal controls, and implement best accounting practices.
Additional Duties - Support special projects and cross-functional collaboration to enhance financial operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced certifications (CPA, CMA) or higher education preferred.
- Experience - Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in accounting or financial analysis, with demonstrated expertise in managing complex financial functions and ensuring regulatory compliance.
