Position Summary
Under the direction of center administration and the lead teacher, the assistant teacher is responsible for coordinating and implementing individual education plans for children ages 6 weeks – 3 years. The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in providing a safe and educational learning environment for the children.
Major Responsibilities and Tasks

Program Core Features
- Provide high-quality learning environment that incorporates evidence-based curriculum and instructional activities
- Support the lead teacher to provide the highest quality of care to the infants and toddlers
- Attend and participate in all scheduled trainings in support of ongoing professional development
- Provide an enhanced curriculum focused on social-emotional development, early language and literacy, and physical development

Curriculum
- Positively engage with children and use appropriate Conscious Discipline methods, as outlined in CWCC’s policy
- Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices
- Meet with lead teacher and aide to review lesson plans and individual child goals and assign best teaching practices
- Assist in the planning and implementation of learning experiences that promote all developmental domains

Assessment
- Identify concerns or developmental milestones of primary care children to the lead teacher
- Coordinate with the lead teacher and aide to develop activities and use instructional materials appropriate for infants and toddlers
- Assist in the completion of informal and formal assessments at the discretion of the lead teacher

Home-School Connections
- Develop relationships with families by providing open communication and encouraging parental input
- Interpret school program to parents to strengthen the understanding of the child’s needs and the importance of an early learning environment for the continued development of the child

Other
- The assistant teacher will assume lead teaching responsibilities in the absence of the lead teacher
- Attend staff meetings, as requested
- In cooperation with other staff, complete daily cleaning duties
- Carry out routine duties such as meal preparations, diapering, toileting, hand washing, and supervision of children at all times
- Ensure classroom materials, furniture, and supplies are properly maintained
- Any other duties assigned by center administration
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- CDA (Child Development Associate)
Preferred Qualifications
- CDA (Child Development Associate)
- 2 years teaching experience in a childcare environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25-35 lbs
- Ability to walk, kneel, sit, and stand for long periods of time
