USAID / BHA provides and coordinates U.S. Government (USG) international humanitarian assistance to save lives, alleviate human suffering, and reduce the physical, social, and economic impact of rapid and slow-onset disasters by supporting at-risk populations to build stable foundations to withstand humanitarian shocks and stresses. Team Credence, through the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Support Contract (BHASC), provides operational and administrative support to provide and coordinate humanitarian assistance and maintain 24 / 7 response capability.The Humanitarian Information Team (HIT) is responsible for factual reporting to the public and USG interagency on humanitarian assistance and response efforts globally. HIT Information Officers (IOs) are the lead reporting point of contact for USAID / BHA, providing clear, accurate, and timely information on humanitarian developments and response for program staff and USG senior leadership to support humanitarian decision-making.As an Information Officer, you will be an integral part of a regional team based in Washington, D.C., or serving on a disaster response team overseas, assigned to natural disasters, complex emergencies, and other humanitarian crises. This is primarily a writing and editing job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the duties listed below Collect, synthesize, and analyze information on current humanitarian emergencies and response efforts, and use that information to write, edit, format, obtain clearance for, and disseminate a wide range of internal and external information products.Work with geospatial analysts and graphic designers to develop analytic and visual information products that support humanitarian response and reporting.Use Excel and financial reporting systems to organize and develop detailed funding charts to include in information products.Serve on Response Management Teams (RMTs) to provide D.C.-based information support to Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DARTs), often requiring fast-paced, after-hours work.Travel internationally on rotations to USAID / BHA regional or country offices for extended periods of time. IOs are expected to travel up to 50 percent of the year or more, including on short notice when emerging disasters or events require. Deployments generally last an average of 12 weeks each, though can be longer or shorter depending on response needs.Serve on DARTs which may require immediate (within 24 hours) deployment overseas for an extended period of time. During deployment, work is primarily performed in an embassy office setting, but often in countries and regions of the world experiencing disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and active conflict, with limited infrastructure and / or services.When deployed, in coordination with regional team staff and disaster response team leads, attend meetings and collaborate closely with information counterparts from other USG agencies, the UN, and nongovernmental organizations to ensure that all relevant humanitarian information is obtained and communicated to USAID / BHA staff.Education, Requirements and Qualifications Preferred : MS 2 of full-time work experience in a related field (international affairs or relations, political science or government, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, public health, emergency management, public policy, humanities, etc.)Minimum : BS 2 Years, MS 0 , or HS 6 Required to have US citizenship and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance for the duration of employment on this contract.Will be required to pursue a U.S. Department of State medical clearance for the duration of employment on this contract.Must be willing and able to serve on extended international deployments (12 weeks or more at a time) to disaster zones, including conflict-affected areas and austere environments, often on short notice.Other Qualifications and RequirementsMust possess excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills and have exceptional attention to detail.Must be able to efficiently track, triangulate, and organize substantial volumes of evolving quantitative and qualitative data to ensure accurate and up-to-date information management.Must be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and have the ability to work under tight deadlines in an extremely fast-paced and collaborative environment.Requires the demonstrated ability to work well with others and meet deadlines in challenging environments.Requires knowledge of and / or interest in humanitarian issues.Foreign language ability and overseas work experience are beneficial to the position but not required.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements : Lifting in excess of 25 lbs, standing for long periods of time, traveling across base regularly, transporting equipment, etc.Hybrid work environment (virtual and in-person) with the recruitment to be in Washington DC, office three days per week when not deployed.Important Application InstructionsTo be considered for this position, you MUST submit the following : Cover LetterResumeWriting Sample : Per the following prompt, the writing sample must be an original, brief summary (350 words or less) for a government official describing a humanitarian crisis / emergency situation and key impacts.
