RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing
Overview
The Clinical Supervisor plays a vital role in overseeing clinical operations within a healthcare setting. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, managing clinical staff, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of clinical practices, including infection control and use of PPE.
Previous Skilled Nursing Facility experience preferred.
Suscepetible to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask.
Duties
- Supervise and manage clinical staff to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to protocols.
- Oversee patient care activities, ensuring the application of medical terminology and proper documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care,
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist patients as needed while adhering to safety protocols.
- Start and maintain all intravenous access devices as ordered by the resident’s Physician (RN only).
- Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Complete assigned paperwork, projects, or audits as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Work assigned schedule which may include some weekends and holidays
- Assist nursing staff with Admissions, Transfers and Discharges.
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the Skilled Nursing Facility
- Monitor for survey compliance and participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the Nursing Department.
- Participate in survey (inspections) made by authorized governing agencies.
- Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors and government agencies as required.
- Make daily compliance rounds on the units to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
- Report findings to the Director of Nursing.
- Review nurse’s notes to ensure that they are informative, descriptive of the nursing care being provided, and they reflect the residents’ response to care.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to assure that Medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
- Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing. Assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans.
- Ensure that all RNs and LVNs are following the policies and procedures for administration, storage and control of medications and supplies.
- Assist with monitoring incidents and assess for further investigation, intervention and follow up as needed.
- Complete quality improvement audit tools as assigned.
- Assist nursing staff with Admissions, Transfers and Discharges.
Skills
- Proficient in managing clinical operations and staff dynamics.

- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work at all levels of nursing care.
- Previous Skilled Nursing Facility experience preferred.
- Must be willing to creatively seek out new methods and principles of care and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Must be proficient in the use of oral and written skills in the English language and must possess communication skills which make the Clinician understood easily.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as, laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care in California.
