What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flow Cytometry Laboratory Manager position at Creighton University Social Sourcing?
Creighton University in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a Flow Cytometry Lab Manager.
This position works in the Flow Cytometry Core Facility, which offers a range of flow cytometry services to the research community. This role will oversee daily operations of a state-of-the art service facility and will be principally responsible for performing cell sorting experiments. The role will also work with investigators to develop new flow cytometry protocols, and support grant applications and publications. Flow cytometers currently available at the Flow Core facility includes a BioRAD ZE5 (formerly Propel Labs YETI) analyzer and a recently acquired Invitrogen Bigfoot Spectral Cell sorter. The facility also has a variety of other shared equipment to support facility users.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain existing flow cytometers, computer systems, and ancillary equipment.
- Operate application and analysis software, including overseeing software and hardware upgrades as needed.
- Perform and schedule routine and non-routine maintenance.
- Perform data analysis if this service is requested
- Troubleshoot instrument problems and consult with vendor technical staff regarding the best approach for repair.
- Design and implement procedures and protocols appropriate for managing multi-user equipment.
- Work with Facility Director and advisory committee to establish facility priorities and to prepare long range strategic plans.
- Communicate with staff, student, and faculty users of the facility on policies, procedures, expectations, and experiment planning
- Oversee client reservations and account information
- Participate in selecting new facility equipment and software with advancing technology so that the facility maintains its status as a cutting-edge research facility.
- Attend training sessions or courses to develop and maintain expertise in the field
- Train new users and interested researchers
Qualifications
- MS or other advanced degree in relevant biomedical field required (immunology, biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology etc.)
- 6 years of research laboratory experience, to include a minimum of 3 years of direct flow cytometry experience
- Experience performing and analyzing routine flow cytometry-based assays
- Experience providing instruction to students, postdoctoral fellows, and other researchers concerning technical procedures and solutions related to flow cytometry
- Experience with spectral sorting and/or high-dimensional data analysis preferred
- Previous experience working in a core/shared resource facility is preferred
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- Computer programming experience related to using bioinformatics pipelines is a plus
